Process Environmental Consultancy (PEC) is a consultancy firm that works closely with clients to develop, build, and operate lithium brine, spodumene, and clay projects, ranging from concept stage to full-scale production in the manufacture of battery-grade lithium chemicals. While lithium processing is one of our core competencies, we offer strong expertise in producing sulfates, nitrates, potassium chloride, and boron-based products.

We are a Qualified Person (QP), generating proper disclosure of scientific and technical information for mining- and metallurgy-based projects. We submit NI-43-101, JORQ, and SEC reports required by the TSX, ASX, NYSE, and Nasdaq.

DLE-Technology

Peter Ehren is a pioneer in Direct Lithium Extraction and started his investigation during his final thesis about lithium recovery from Salton Sea Geothermal brine. PEC has a vast database of test results of DLE technologies and guides the clients on what is the most suitable to be applied as part of the complete project.

Process Environmental Consultancy (PEC)  added proven value to sedimentary rock and clay projects, making them technical and economically feasible.

Solar Evaporation

We are worldwide experts in designing solar evaporation systems and post-processing. We have designed simulated and optimized most of the actual solar evaporation at the Salar de Atacama. Olaroz. Chauchari, Silver Peak, Rincon, Hombre Muerte, Antofalla, Uyuni, Salinas Granades, Rann of Ruth, Lake Mackay, Pathway. Qinghai Base and many others.

We visited a variety of Spodumene processing operations, analyzing their process and costs. PEC has the ability to have innovative revisions at them for optimization.

Lithium Carbonate

Our company has visited most of the lithium carbonate operations. We were closely involved in 2 expansions of the lithium carbonate plant of SQM. Designed the lithium carbonate and bi-carbonate plant for Olaroz and where involved from lab scale, pilot plant, start-up, and operations. We designed a new reactor that only requires 2 times a year acid washing. PEC consulted for the lithium carbonate plant at Albemarle in Chile and USA. PEC designed and tested the lithium carbonate for Ioneer, Lithium Power International,  Millennium Lithium, and Lithium South Development. Lithium Carbonate precipitation is between art and science!

Since 1997 we have been involved in potash processing, the production of potassium chloride from silvinte, and carnalite, and the production of potassium sulfate from schoenite, kainite, and lithium schoenite - lithium glaserite. PEC realized project evaluation for potash deposits and operations in Australia, India, and China.
 

Lithium Carbonate

Lithium Hydroxide

Peter Ehren's first involvement with lithium hydroxide was intensive testing of lithium chloride electrolysis. He was closely involved in the testing, design, engineering, and operation of the first lithium hydroxide plant of SQM using lime and lithium carbonate.
PEC delivered the design for the lithium hydroxide plant for Arcadium Lithium plant in Japan. Intensive testing was done with GEA and Veolia. PEC invented and patented the production of lithium hydroxide directly from lithium chloride and lithium nitrate by using potassium hydroxide known as Green+ and Bleu refineries.

Boron

Boron

Peter Ehren's first involvement in the absolutely not boring world of boron was at the boric acid plant in the Salar de Atacama. He worked in depth at the boric acid plant of Borax Argentina using as feedstock Ulexite, and developed the process to make boric acid using hydroboracite. Another process development has been the production of boric acid from Searleslite.
